KORU for the Culture : A Mindfulness Group for Young Adult Women of Color

KORU is a mindfulness curriculum designed specifically to target the developmental needs and interests of young adults. Koru was developed at the student counseling center at Duke University where it has become a very popular program and is now taught nationally and internationally. Koru has been empirically tested in a randomized, controlled trial and found to have significant benefits on sleep, perceived stress, mindfulness, and self-compassion.

KORU for the Culture Mindfulness group meets every week for four weeks. Each session lasts 75 minutes. You will be taught 2-3 mindfulness skills during each session and then tasked with practicing the skills daily. You’ll record your experience using an app. I will respond in real-time to you through the app, offering tips and guidance along the way. Due to the skills based nature of KORU, all participants are required to attend all four sessions. As part of the course includes in-depth discussion, we will also read and discuss The Inner Work of Racial Justice by Rhonda V. McGee to support our work together. Once you register and pay in full, you will be sent additional information via email to get you setup. Classes meet weekly via Zoom.
